Applause（掌声）由Lady GaGa和DJ White Shadow共同撰写。收录于Lady Gaga第三张个人录音室专辑《ARTPOP》中，为首波热门主打单曲，取得了优异成绩。已于2013年8月13日电台首发，同日在iTunes上架。新单发行后的两个礼拜，8月25号，Gaga在第30届MTV音乐录影带大奖(VMA)上首演这支单曲。

单曲封面是由时尚摄影师组合伊内兹·冯·兰姆斯韦德 (Inez van Lamsweerde) 和维努德·玛达丁(Vinoodh Matadin)操刀，凭借疯狂抽象而写实的角度，再次展现了Lady Gaga非凡的个人魅力。灵感来自小丑、歌剧、波普艺术以及日本视觉摇滚乐队Pierrot的Pierrot-esque face。

Lady Gaga在接受WDD采访的时候谈论Applause说：「我想告诉你们，这是很有趣的，并且它充满了幸福，毫不犹豫地说这首歌是我活在掌声里的真实写照。我活在粉丝的欢呼和尖叫中。举起你们的双手，用力地拍掌吧！
